In the year 1660 there was a boy born in England and

his name was Thomas Luker.

 

In 1685 Tom came to this country with his two brothers.

Looking for work he came to a small town located on

the Goose Creek River.

There was no way for people to get across the river so

Tom felt he could make money setting up a ferry boat.

He did that and everyone was very happy being able to go

back and forth across the Goose Creek River.

All the residents were so thankful for Tom and

they loved Tom so much

that they made a decision.

As a tribute to Tom for all he had done for them.

Goose Creek River would be renamed.

The new name was

Toms River

If you go to Toms River there is a small park

called Huddy Park.

There is a small foot bridge in the park

as you can see in the picture below.

The name of the bridge is
